The Hakskeen Pan in the Northern Cape, South Africa is a bone dry, desert bowl 200km north of the nearest airport. During the summer months, temperatures during the day can reach 45° Celsius and dust storms are a common occurrence. It’s in this scorching heat, carved out between the dunes, that Bloodhound have cleared the track upon which they intend to test their supersonic car and in doing so, break the land-speed record.
It’s hard to imagine a tougher environment in which to operate and maintain a precision engineered, finely balanced machine like the BLOODHOUND Supersonic Car. To do so successfully, The BLOODHOUND Project asked Bott to provide workshop kit capable of withstanding the same extreme climate and conditions as their car, providing adequate protection and storage for the all the tools, spare parts and equipment they need to complete their challenge. In short, they need Bott’s products to be unquestionably built to last.
We know that this project will be a stern test of our workshop kit in an environment unlike anything it’s experienced before. In August, each unit will be sent to Newquay as the car is runway tested at 200 mph, before being shipped out to South Africa for the 2-3 month long testing period culminating in a world record attempt. Our products will have to withstand long transportation, sea spray, heat, microscopic dust and constant heavy use by the BLOODHOUND team without becoming damaged or broken in the process.
In order to ensure the kit lives up to the Built to Last ethos, we’ve subjected each piece to rigorous testing, making sure that it can endure the worst this expedition can throw at it whilst maintaining durability and high levels of performance. We’ve gone to every extreme, including heavy load testing and spraying the equipment with salt water, all to ensure that the long life and superb quality of our product will not be compromised by the arduous desert lake bed conditions.
This world record attempt by the BLOODHOUND team is the culmination of years of hard work and testing, pushing the boundaries of design, engineering and physics in the attempt to go faster on land than anyone has before.
